Vignettes to make Life a Little Better and More Prosperous
The multiple ways MSG is hidden in our food supply
MSG is hidden by the use of the following words:
1. Textured protein
2. Yeast extracts
3. Yeast proteins
4. Natural flavoring
5. Autolyzed yeast extract
6. Sodium or Calcium casinate
7. Flavorings
8. Spices
9. Natural beef (or chicken, or pork) flavorings
10.Whey protein
11. Hydrolyzed vegetable/soy protein
This is not MSG but it affects our bodies in the same way. It's created by boiling rotten vegetables or soy with sulfuric acid until it is a mush. Then neutralized with caustic soda, dried and made into a powder, then sold as a flavor enhancer. There are several more 'secret' ways designed to fool or trick the public into believing that poor quality food will taste better.
You might ask how the above words are involved with a cover up of MSG. The federal government allows the cover up by allowing corporations to use spices as an ingredient. If the corporation uses real spices, they can substitute MSG as long as Spices represent 51 % of the food additive and MSG remains at 49 % or less. This applies to the entire above list except Hydrolyzed vegetable protein.
Also the words 'No MSG or No ADDED MSG' is legal to use when a product contains free glutamates like hydrolyzed protein.
Some of the problems with MSG are headaches, diarrhea and food addiction. This especially true in kids who are hooked on foods which they crave on a constant basis.
Dr Russell Blaylock authored a book titled; "Excitotoxins the Taste That Kills" where he explains what excitotoxins do to the human body. There are three excitotoxins:
1. MSG
2. Hydrolyzed vegetable/soy protein
3. Aspartame (Equal)
These three products damage the hypothalamus in our brains which contains the appetite control center. With this damage many people are addicted to certain foods and become obese because they have lost the control of when they are full. (Of course massive amounts of sugar products in our diets also contribute to obesity.)
These three excitotoxins also are the cause of (or the largest part of) Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS. I highly recommend you read the above book.
What should we do? Buy local food from people you can look in their eyes (less likely to lie to you), don't buy processed foods from grocery stores, grow as much food as you can (the back yard is better for growing vegetables than grass with toxic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides), and cook from scratch to assure healthy foods (watch the labels in condiments/seasonings from grocery stores. Organic local foods are always a good choice. They may not have enough trace minerals but they are more nutritionally dense (better quality and quantity) and do not contain herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides.
