Vignettes to make Life a Little Better and More Prosperous
I have just read an article byCamille Noe Pagán in HEALTH Magazine and I cannot copy it but I can sure comment about the ridiculous ideas she reports in the magazine. I have also found more information that is just as ridiculous in Prevention magazine concerning the Glycemic Index.
Ms Pagan's first recommendation comes by way of Bonnie Gluck, M.S., R.D., a clinical dietitian at New York Methodist Hospital. She says lean red meat is an excellent way to lose weight. I am not opposed to this thought but the lady's title is dietitian, not nutritionist.
There are two professions that know nothing about nutrition, medical doctors and dietitians. Today the majority of the meat is sold in big box stores and most of the meat comes from feed lots where the cows are given 5 different hormones, steroids, antibiotics, and chemicals for parasite control. Many are also fed chicken manure that has many drugs and Arsenic.
Cows are fed grains that are unnatural feeds that upset their stomachs,
which then cause a super E-coli bacteria that, when ingested by people, causes severe illness or death. The slaughter practices are not real clean which allows the E-coli to escape from the intestine and ultimately gets into the meat.
Before the meat (this applies to pork, chicken, and beef) is put into the container, it is pumped up with a solution of water, salt, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, and ammonia (the ammonia tenderizes the meat while on the shelf in the store). The meat is then put in a container and the air is removed and carbon monoxide is replaced to make the meat look better on the shelf for a longer period of time. To make sure that E-coli didn't get in the meat and to make it last longer on the shelf, food manufacturers use radiation that kills all the bacteria and destroys all the nutrition that was in the meat.
Neither Ms Pagán nor Ms Gluck mentioned avoiding the bun, ketchup and mayonnaise which most people are going to use when eating ground beef. The bun has no nutrition because it is most likely made with flour stripped of nutrients, high fructose corn syrup and other chemicals. The ketchup is made of chemicals and high fructose corn syrup. The mayonnaise is mostly Genetically Engineered (Franken food) soy beans with herbicides and pesticides.
You can purchase locally grown meats from farmers who have their animals slaughtered in a humane manner. Go to www.eatwild.com to find local meat.
The next food that is recommended is ice cream. The reasoning is from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and their feelings are that
full-fat dairy products are associated with less weight gain particularly with women. They say researchers aren't sure why, but it's believed that a compound in milk fat called conjugated linoleic acid - CLA - may aid weight loss.
This is true, in fact CLA helps to prevent breast cancer, but there is a catch that dieticians don't understand - remember they know nothing about nutrition. Milk contains omega III and CLA beneficial fatty acids if it is grass fed - devoid of grain. Unfortunately, milk cows are fed Genetically Engineered grain and Genetically Engineered bovine growth hormones which cause extra white cells. For processing they use ultra pasteurization that has a temperature way above 200 degrees. This process, plus the grain, destroys all the nutrients and the omega III's and CLA's.With zero nutrition plus sugar in the ice cream this will lead to higher sugar levels which will lead to a higher risk of diabetes.
The next topic is eggs. According to Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, overweight women who eat egg breakfasts lose twice as much weight as women who start their days with bagels. Dah!
This isn't brain surgery; grains are stripped of nutrition and loaded with carbohydrates. Carbohydrates cause people to become fat and they cause cholesterol to go up. Eggs are protein - what's not to understand with this picture?
Unfortunately, eggs from a grocery store are 3 to 6 months old (particularly in the winter), raised in confinement that is unhealthy for the chicken, and they are fed chemicals that are toxic for the chicken and for people. Look for and buy local non- toxic food raised in a natural environment.
Pizza - this is such a hoax. First item is that Ms Gluck recommends one medium slice. This is stupid because one slice of pizza is like one potato chip - this isn't going to happen. Ms Gluck made no mention that pizza toppings are loaded with MSG and hydrolyzed vegetable/soy protein that are excitotoxins that damage the appetite control center and help us to gain weight, not to mention headaches and other health problems. She also recommended whole wheat flour, but no mention that whole wheat flour in pizza is like in bread, poor quality pumped up with poor ingredients and striped of nutrients.
You can, however, go to some stores and grind real wheat that is organic to make your dough, add organic sauce that you season, and add healthy meat and vegetables that you buy locally. This is a great idea but I want to meet the person who can eat just one slice.
Canadian bacon is the last item from this article and again they miss the nutrition portion. Bacon/Canadian bacon is made with toxic chemicals - nitrates and nitrites - and they should be avoided at all cost. If you shop around you can find bacon and ham made without these chemicals. De Becca is a brand name that makes healthy meat.
One more item came from a promotion for Prevention Magazine on how to "Beat Diabetes Naturally with This Breakthrough" on the glycemic index.
This article proposes that the following "foods" are low glycemic index (GI) and will help you "cure" type II diabetes.
Potato chips
Pound cake
Fettuccine
Canned baked beans
Ice cream
M & M's
Snickers bars
Who is paying for this misinformation? This is the kind of information that you expect from candy companies, drug companies, food companies, but not Prevention Magazine.
The above items contain high fructose corn syrup, sugar, vegetable oils (trans fatty oil), non-nutritious flour, extrusion products (zero nutrition), some chemicals in the beans, and probably ketchup.
If you decide that you want type II diabetes, follow the diet of the American Diabetic Association or the above "foods". I don't care what the Glycemic index says; the above "foods" are poisonous to good health and a cause of diabetes.
