Dead
Food - Irradiation of Fruits and Vegetables
There's
a new program to sterilize the food and destroy the nutritional value of fresh
produce (unfortunately most fresh produce is not fit to eat but it still has some
nutritional value). The people in this program are the usual government
agencies and chemical companies that have corporate America in mind, not your
good health: the USDA (which backed the "raw" almond sterilization
rules now in effect in California) and the American Chemical Society - an
association that represents the interests of industrial chemical and food manufacturers.
The latest "how can we hurt the people and help the bottom line of corporate
America" is from USDA researchers who conducted a study to see which method
more effectively killed bacteria on leafy green vegetables like spinach,
lettuce, etc.
To conduct the study,
they covered the spinach in a solution of bacteria. They then
tried to remove the bacteria using three methods: washing, chemical spraying
and irradiation. Are we surprised that the
irradiation killed almost 100 percent of the bacterial colonies? Irradiation destroys
virtually all bacteria and the plants, which destroys the nutritional value.
The USDA says that this is a
big success. By using radiation on food (they are using it on meat as we write)
the USDA says the number of food-borne illnesses each year will be
substantially lowered. It makes no sense until you figure out that by
destroying all of the nutritional value of all fresh fruits and vegetables sold
in the United States or any other place they can find (probably Canada and
Mexico at the least) you will make people ill which generates money for
medicine and drug companies. This is not for preventing ill health but to
extend the shelf life of produce. Unfortunately, an irradiation program would
increase the number of people killed because dead food does not prevent infections and
chronic diseases whereas healthy food does prevent disease and promotes good
health.
For those of you who don't know, irradiation is
being used on meats. Pork, chicken and beef are bring pumped up with a solution
of water, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, and salt into meat to make the
consumer think the product tastes better than it really does (animals grown in
confinement under torturous conditions don't taste like naturally grown animals).
One nation chicken chain is advertising that their chicken is juicy (of course
they hope you never find out why it is juicy).
Irradiation is particularly used on beef because as
they pump it up they inadvertently push E-coli (from sloppy slaughtering) into
the meat.
One question that comes up, and I am not sure how to
answer this: is there a conspiracy to destroy all nutrients
and healthful foods so that chemical corporations, industrial food manufacturers,
drug corporations and medicine can make money off our poor health, or are they
all just doing their thing of making profits which happens to destroy our
health?
Whatever the reason for the destruction of food, the
best way to combat this is an informed public that can complain and protest to
the powers that control our food supply. The only way to get better food is to
buy locally when possible and boycott large food corporations (and don't fall
for their spin) as much as possible.
Europe got rid of Genetically Modified foods in
their food supply by avoiding food from companies that used these unhealthy
grains. When large corporations realized that their sales were going down they
switched to non GMO foods. The first corporation to switch was Unilever and the
second was Mc Donald's. This was involved with GMO products but the irradiation
issue can be handled the same way here in North America.
A recent victory here in the states is that Star
Bucks has agreed to not use any milk products coming from cows that have been
injected with Bovine Growth Hormones, which is a genetically engineered
product.
I am not the only person reporting about poor food
causing poor health. We need to get interested in our futures. Everyone is busy
and we don't want to think that the "government" would let corporations poison
or destroy our health, but the truth is that corporations control all parts of
our lives. They do this by contributing to politicians' campaigns and in return
the politicians vote the way they are told to help the corporation involved.
I suggest you read everything you can get your hands
on. Take what I report and expand on it. Talk with your friends and family, but
don't stop when uninformed people are not interested or don't want to believe
you.
Jeffery Smith, author of "Seeds of Deception" (about
genetic engineered foods) believes that all we need to change the food supply
is 15,000,000 people out of 300,000,000 to be informed and complaining to
corporations that they will take their business elsewhere and we will see
improvements in our food supply.
I agree, so let's talk to every ear we can find. An
informed public will become a healthier public.
